September edition: What's new in Australian beauty?

I just can't believe it's September already! Spring is definitely  my favourite times of the year when I can trade my monochromatic winter wardrobe for pops of colour, floral tones and prints. Speaking of updating my wardrobe, I also love to do a little spring cleaning to my beauty routine with the change in seasons. It's time to toss out that old mascara that I've just started fall for or perhaps been hanging on to for a little too long for a fresh tube.

Today I came across Rimmel's instagram to toss out my eyelash curler. Let's just say they had me from the get go. I had no clue what they were on about until I heard about a new release...

So usually here in Australia, new products take a while to reach our shores (perhaps there's a lot of sea to cross or something). Being a new release in Australia and the world, I couldn't really find much information so I thought I'd share this little video. I'll definitely be searching the shelves for it as I'm a sucker for lush lashes.

Let's talk about strobing

What on earth is strobing? I first came across the art of strobing when watching the ever so talented gossmakeupartist which he describes as a makeup technique that involves highlighting the face for a dewy healthy finish to the skin. To me it sounds like nothing new, highlighting and contouring has been popular since Kim Kardashian made it all the rage. Not to mention MAC strobe cream which received a lot of attention a couple of years ago. But what makes this beauty trend different is the lack of contouring which achieves a more natural look with purely highlighting only- think runway model luminous glowing skin!

Strobing or 'reverse contouring' works by accentuating the high points which ultimately creates dimension to the face without the need for dark tones and shadows to recess your features thereby achieving a much softer effect. The forehead, down the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, temples and cupids bow are the common places which tend to hit the light naturally. Sounds perfect for an everyday healthy illuminated skin look.

New to beauty in July

Unless you've been hiding under a very glittery rock for the past couple of years, you would have probably heard of Urban Decay's incredibly successful 'Naked' palette. It was so successful that they've managed to release not one but three palettes in the line of pigment rich yet buttery-smooth eyeshadows and attain a cult following in the beauty world. Recently, Urban Decay was acquired by L’Oréal Paris who also happens to own Maybelline New York amongst many other cosmetic brands so its not too surprising that Maybelline has come out with a similar product to the Naked palette.

What Maybelline say:

•  Ultra-blendable pigments
• Create infinite looks with bold beiges, sultry sands, brazen bronzes and over-the-top taupes
• Use as duos, trios or quads

Since this palette was released in the US last year, its easy to find reviews on it. I can't really say too much at the moment except that I'm  definitely keen to try it. It seems like great value with very wearable colours that I would be able to use on a daily basis regardless of whether it is a UD dupe or not.
PS. I've managed to spot the palette at my local Woolworths supermarket so it should be in most MNY stocklists very very soon! So be sure to keep an eye out for them if they interest you.
